Job description

HR & Health and Safety Advisor

Coventry | Full-time | Temp to Permanent | Office-Based

The Role

If you’re the kind of person who spots the missing comma, remembers where every file lives, and genuinely enjoys keeping people (and paperwork) on track — this could be your next move.

You’ll wear two hats here: part HR Administrator, part Health & Safety Trainee. On the HR side, you’ll make sure the team of around 37 full-time employees are supported, compliant, and cared for — keeping everything from contracts to communication running smoothly. On the H&S side, you’ll work closely with the Health & Safety Officer to develop practical, on-the-ground knowledge that keeps everyone safe and compliant.

This is a full-time, office-based role — ideal for someone who values consistency, takes pride in doing things properly, and has that old-fashioned work ethic that never goes out of style. The company is growing fast, and they’re ready to invest in someone who’s committed, reliable, and genuinely wants to make a difference.

They currently use an external HR consultant, but the goal is to bring that expertise in-house — and you’ll be right at the centre of making that happen. If you’re looking for a role where you can take ownership and grow with the business, this is it.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing employee contracts, onboarding, and right-to-work checks

  • Maintaining accurate HR records and ensuring compliance with employment law

  • Being the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries

  • Supporting managers with employee relations, disciplinary processes, and absence management

  • Keeping policies, handbooks, and procedures up to date

  • Partnering with the external HR consultant while gradually taking on more internal ownership

  • Shadowing the Health & Safety Officer on audits, inspections, and risk assessments

  • Assisting with writing RAMS, reports, and action plans

  • Helping deliver toolbox talks and promoting a positive safety culture

  • Supporting the wider business with practical, people-first HR and safety solutions

What You’ll Need

  • Experience in HR administration and some exposure to Health & Safety

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills — accuracy is everything here

  • The confidence to deal with confidential matters professionally and discreetly

  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the business

  • A proactive approach and the curiosity to keep learning both HR and H&S

  • A dependable, hard-working attitude — someone who shows up, follows through, and takes pride in a job well done

  • Ability to work independently while being a supportive part of a close-knit team

  • Basic understanding of H&S principles — or the motivation to get up to speed quickly

  • A genuine desire to help the business grow safely, compliantly, and sustainably

What You Might Not Like

  • It’s a small, fast-moving team — you’ll be hands-on and visible

  • The mix of HR and H&S means no two days look the same (and that’s not for everyone)

  • You’ll need to balance people care with compliance — sometimes you’ll be the voice of reason in tricky moments

What To Do Next
